Yes. Even if you no longer have any natural teeth, we still recommend an annual checkup to screen for oral cancer and soft-tissue health, as well as assess how your dentures are fitting as the mouth naturally changes over time.
If you wear a partial denture or have dental implants, we recommend continuing regular visits with your general dentist for examinations and professional hygiene cleanings.
Regular monitoring helps protect both your oral health and the long-term comfort and function of your dentures.
-
Textbooks typically list a denture’s lifespan as 5-7 years, sometimes up to 10 years with good care. Over time, natural changes in the gums and jawbone, as well as normal wear of the denture material, can affect fit, comfort, and function. Regular checkups help us monitor these changes and determine whether a replacement denture is needed.
-
Minor discomfort is common with new dentures, but persistent soreness or irritation should not be ignored. You play a key role in your own care — If something feels off, please contact us right away so we can assess your dentures and make any necessary adjustments. Wearing ill-fitting dentures for long periods can lead to more serious problems. We’re here to protect both your comfort and your overall oral health.
